(County Coroner's Office identifies victim)...The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

The body of the woman found in the vehicle has been identified as 48 year old Maria G. Vasquez, a resident of Calexico. The County Coroner's office released the identity Tuesday morning. They said a cause of death still has not been determined. The CHP had responded to a call at around 1:00 Friday morning. A Man driving a tractor called authorities after he discovered a vehicle in the Acacia Canal, off Bowker Road, near Cole Road. Emergency crews responded, but were unbable to get to the vehicle because of the depth of the water. The IID was asked to divert the water from the canal. Firefighters were then able to use the Jaws Of Life to access the vehicle. That is when they found the body of the the woman. The Highway Patrol says the woman was not wearing a safety belt. The CHP says they are continuing to investigate the incident.
