Judge Ruth Bermudez Montenegro has been confirmed as a US District Judge for Southern District of California. She is now the second Latina among the 61 US District Court Judges in the state. Judge Montenegro is also the second Imperial Valley Native confirmed as a member of the District Court for the San Diego/Imperial Counties. At one time Judge Montenegro served as Assistant County Counsel for the County of Imperial, where she provided legal services to the County and its Department. Before being confirmed to the District Court, Judge Montenegro served as the Federal Magistrate at the Federal Courthouse in El Centro.
