(A second trial for Josue Mercado)....It is a retrial on felony charges of misappropriation of public funds.

In the first trial of the Auditor/Controller in November, he was found guilty of a misdemeanor charge, but the jury failed to come up with a unanimous decision on the felony charges. The new jury was selected and opening statements were held Wednesday. Those close to the trial say it could be a quick process, and the jury could be deliberating by Friday.
