The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal off-road accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

Initial investigation revealed that a group of off-road vehicles were travelling on rugged mountainous trails northwest of the Adair Range when one of the vehicles ran off the trail while negotiating a turn. The driver, 67-year-old Kurt Langland, of Yuma got out of the UTV but jumped back in when the vehicle started to roll down a steep ravine. The UTV continued tumbling down the 300-foot- deep-ravine ejecting the driver. Langland suffered fatal injuries. YCSO was assisted in recovering the deceased driver by the YCSO Search and Rescue unit and the Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Unit. The accident remains under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
