El Centro Police arrested a man wanted in connection with a Tuesday afternoon stabbing.

Police responded to the 900 block of North Imperial Avenue at about 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. Officers located a 42-year-old El Centro man who had been stabbed. Witnesses identified a suspect, 21-year-old Andrew Ruiz, of El Centro. Officers went to Ruiz's residence in an attempt to locate him. Ruiz was found hiding in the backyard. He ultimately surrendered to an El Centro Police Department canine officer. A search of Ruiz's residence located a knife and controlled substances.  The suspect was booked into Imperial County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, and a probation violation. The victim was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
