A Westmorland man died in a traffic accident Sunday morning.

According to the California Highway patrol the accident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. Sunday on Aten Road just east of Forrester Road. A car driven by a 77-year-old Westmorland man was eastbound on Aten Road when, for an unknown reason, the car drifted across the center line and collided head on with a car driven by 35-year-old Carlos Lopez-Merendon of Imperial. Merendon was not injured but the other driver sustained fatal injuries in the accident. The deceased drivers name has not been released. The accident remains under investigation.
