(Smuggling attempts thwarted)...They happened over the weekend.
Border Patrol agents seized over $200,000 of meth. The first incident happened Friday afternoon. Border Patrol K-9 Detection team assisted with a vehicle stop preformed by a Homeland Security investigator. The driver gave consent for a complete canine inspection of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the trunk. They found three battery boosters in the trunk. Three wrapped packages were found in the battery boosters, weighing over 22 pounds. The packages tested positive for methamphetamine. The estimated value of the meth was almost $56,000. The 2nd incident happened Sunday morning at the Highway 86 checkpoint. A pick-up towing a trailer was sent to the secondary inspection area. A Border Patrol k_9 alerted to the trailer. Several wrapped packages were found hidden in false railing of the trailer. The contents tested positive for meth. The packages weighed over 122 pounds. The value of the methamphetamine was estimated at $147,000. The subjects in both incidents, the vehicles and the narcotics were all turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
