(The next local election is in June)....The official filing period is still months away.

Candidates, however, are lining up to file once they officially can. Normally the race for District Attorney is a very lonely race. Not now. There have been two announce they will file. El Centro City Councilman Edgard Garcia has said he was a candidate, and this month Deputy Public Defender George Marquez announced his candidacy. Incumbent Gilbert Otero has not officially announced if he would be seeking re-election. County Sheriff Ray Loera has said this is his last term as Sheriff. Under-Sheriff Fred Miramontes and retired Deputy Hilton Smith have both said they were candidates for the position. Those who have said they would be seeking re-election include County Supervisor for District one Jesus Eduardo Escobar and County Supervisor for District 5 Ray Castillo. IID Director for Division one Alex Cardenas has also said he would be seeking re-election. Again, the official filing period does not begin for a couple months.
