(Semi Burns on Mountain Grade)...It started at just before 10 Wednesday night.

The rig was eastbound on Interstate 8, when the tires on the trailer caught fire near the Mountain Springs Road onramp. The driver pulled the rig over, but the fire quickly spread to the rest of the trailer, and soon the entire rig was on fire. Passing motorists tried to help put the fire out. The California Highway Partrol arrived and closed the #2 lane of eastbound Interstate 8, and they called a towing company to help clean-up. The rig burned for several hours and the lane was closed into the morning Thursday. No injuries were reported in the incident.
