((Some Valleyites went to the polls Tuesday)...It was election day Tuesday for some in the Imperial County.
Some Special Districts, such as school and community districts had some issues on the ballot. The biggest issue Tuesday was in Brawley. Voters in Brawley were asked to approve Measure U. The Measure is a 4% utility tax which is getting ready to sunset. The questions on the ballot were whether to extend the tax and eliminate any future sunset clause. Making the Utility tax permanent, removable only through another election. The utility tax is used to help fund almost every service provided by the City of Brawley. At last report proponents for the tax were leading by about 90 votes, but officials said there were still several ballots that needed to be counted. They said a decision on the Measure will not be announced until those ballots are counted.
