(Fire Prevention Week wrapping up)....It began last Sunday.
The County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution declaring the special week. The national theme this year was Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety. Officials say it is important to keep fire safety awareness fresh, even after the speccial week ends. The National Fire Protection Association says home fires are most common in the cooler months when people spend more time inside. They say cooking and heating equipment are the leading causes of home fires. The American Red Cross says a good way to wrap up Fire Safety Week is for residents to test the smoke alarms in their homes to make sure tthey are all functional. They say it is also a good time to develop an escape plan, and practice the plan with everyone who lives in your house.
