(Big Rig catches fire)...It was reported Monday evening.

The rig was eastbound on Interstate 8 at close to 5:30 Monday evening. Just east of the Truck Escape Ramp, the rig was forced to pull over after the engine compartment caught fire. County Fire was called in, and The California Highway Patrol closed the east bound lanes to allow crews to extinguish the fire. The driver of the rig was not injured. The CHP says traffic was detained and then diverted until close to 8:00 pm. The rig was pulling a loaded trailer at the time. The tractor of the rig was destroyed. Fire crews were able to keep the full fuel tanks from exploding.
