Yuma Fire Department responded to a house fire Thursday evening and used a FIDO bag to rescue two dogs.

The fire was reported at about 7:30 p.m. in the 600 block of South 20th Avenue in Yuma. The fire department  able to contain the fire to the house but it was extensively damaged. One teenage occupant of the house was able to evacuate the house but two dogs remained in the house. Firefighters were able to locate the unconscious canines. The pets were taken outside and firefighters used a FIDO bag and the dogs regained consciousness. The FIDO bag contains various pieces of pet related first aid equipment. One of the most significant pieces is an oxygen mask that is shaped to conform to the muzzle of a dog. The fire started with an unattended pot of oil left on a stove. A parent had left the pot on the stove to go to the store. A teenage daughter was able to wake up and smell the smoke and call the fire department.
