A man was shot Thursday evening.

The incident was reported at about 8:45 p.m. at 4th and State in El Centro. Four shots were said to have been fired and a witness reported a man down and bleeding in the alley. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment. Investigating officers determined that a black Honda Civic with a single occupant was seen leaving the area westbound through the alley. The victim told officers that he was walking on 4th Street when he was shot from behind. The victim could provide no other information. Three 9 mm shell casings were recovered from the scene of the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
