An El Centro house was damaged by fire Wednesday evening.

Firefighters responded to a residence in the 500 block of Holt at about 6:30 p.m. Smoke and flames were seen coming from the building and residents had evacuated the structure on firefighters arrival. It took about an hour for fire personnel to clear the scene. The Red Cross was able to assist a woman , two cats and a turtle that were displaced by the fire.
