Two people are in custody after trying to smuggle methamphetamine.

The pair , a45-year old man and a 652-year old woman , both Legal Permanent Residents from Mexico , were stopped at the Highway 86 Checkpoint near Salton City at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The people and their SUV were referred to secondary inspection where a Border Patrol Canine Team alerted to the vehicle. Agents discovered over 46 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in bags in the back of the SUV. The meth has a street value estimated at over $128,000. The pair were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
