(Preliminary information released)...The information is on the officer involved shooting in Calexico.

It happened Monday evening. In a press release, the Department says officers responded to a call of a stabbing in progress at the bus stop on Third and Paulin, The call was received at 6:11 Monday evening. When officers arrived, they found a victim with a laceration. The officers located the alleged suspect who had a knife in his hand tethered to his wrist. The officers ordered the man to drop the knife. The suspect refused. The press release says the suspect was shot, and rendered aid. He was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center via Calexico Fire Department Ambulance. The suspect died at the hospital. The suspects name was being withheld pending next of kin notification. He is described as a 65 year old Hispanic Male Adult. His last known address is from Calexico. The officers on scene were not injured. The officer who shot the subject was placed on administrative leave per Calexico Police Department policy and protocol. The officer was not identified. The press release says all officers on the scene were wearing and had their department issued body cameras on. Imperial County Sheriff's Office is investigating the Officer Involved Shooting. The Calexico Police Department is also conducting an internal investigation. They say further information will be released as it becomes available.
