(Mayor Rosie Arreola Fernandez issues a statement)....The Calexico Mayor addressed recent comments made by Calexico City Council member Raul Urena.

In the statement, Fernandez says Urena's comments on police brutality in El Centro and Imperial were unsupported and were hollow arguments and a shameful betrayal of Calexico's fundamental regional spirit. She said she would continue to maintain effective communication to help strengthen regional diplomacy. Urena released a lengthy responce to a local television station. He accused the Mayor of playing favorites and did not respect him or Councilmember Gloria Romo. He said he looked forward to July 7, when the Calexico City Council would name a new Mayor.
