(Gunshots reported early Tuesday morning)....El Centro Police responded to the call at around 2:50 Tuesday morning.
The gunshots were reported in the 1200 Block of Vine Street. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke with a victim and witnesses. The officers were told a suspect was breaking into a vehicle and he was confronted by the owner of the vehicle. The suspect, armed with a knife, reportedly tried to stab the victim. A witness, armed with a firearm, approached the suspect in an attempt to stop the suspect from stabbing the victim. Police say the witness said he discharged his firearm. The suspect dropped his knife and fled on foot. It is not known if the gunfire struck the suspect. Police say the suspect is still outstanding. The suspect is described as a Hispanic adult male, standing six feet tall, wearing a black facemask and dark clothing. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they are encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Adrian Chilpa at the El Centro Police Department.
