(Bi-National rescue)...It happened Monday.
At around 8:00 am when the Yuma Air Branch crew were conducting aerial patrol operations east of Calexico. Thge crew spotted a woman being sexually assaulted on the Mexico side of the border about 12 miles east of downtown Calexico. The crew activated the loudspeaker and sirens on their EC120 to scare off the assailant and they observed him running away from the woman's location. The aircrew notified the Calexico Border Patrol Station of the incident and landed the helicopter to make contact with the woman. They found the woman bleeding profusely. She told the crew she had been shot. She had a noticeable head wound. Border Patrol agents arrived and began providing medical attention through the border fence, in an attempt to control the bleeding. Mexican officials were notified. They arrived and transported the woman to a hospital. The Mexican officials also found a man fleeing the scene. The man was arrested.
