The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Monday morning.

Shortly before noon , a head on crash on Highway 98 near Holdridge Road claimed the life of an 83-year old Calexico man. According to the CHP , a 2005 Lincoln driven by 41-year old Detron Williams of Campo , was eastbound on Highway 98 when his car drifted into the westbound lane , the colliding with a westbound 2002 Pontiac , despite both drivers taking evasive action. Williams received minor injuries. His passenger , 23-year old Mistie Upchurch of Campo , sustained major injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center via REACK Air Ambulance. The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released. The accident remains under investigation.
