The City of El Centro wants to put the Mayan Hotel in receivership.
El Centro City Attorney Elizabeth Martyn told Council members that the City is moving forward to establish receivership so that they can take control of the burned out building. The Mayan Hotel was condemned by the City 2 years ago and has been empty ever since. Several fires have occurred in the past few months , the most recent Saturday night. The weekend fire left just the outside brick walls of the building standing. This poses a risk to public safety as the walls are ready to collapse. The City wants to take control so that immediate action is taken to control the property and protect the public.
