(New Year's MEP)...It is the California Highway Patrol's Holiday enforcement.

The Maximum Enforcement Period for the New Year's Holiday Weekend begins at 6:01 Thursday evening. It will continue until 11:59 Sunday night. The MEP is when the Highway Patrol calls in as many officers as possible to patrol the roadways. The idea is to reduce traffic collisions and reduce the severity of those that inevitably occur. All traffic laws will be enforced, especially DUI, speeding and seatbelt laws. The Christmas Maximum Enforcement was relatively calm with five DUI arrests and only one property damage collision.
