An abandoned house in El Centro was extensively damaged by a Tuesday morning fire.

Initial reports  were called in on 9 1 1 at 11:33 a.m. reporting a house in the 700 block of Broadway was on fire. ECFD units were on scene in about 2 minutes and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure. A second alarm was issued and equipment and personnel from the City of Calexico , City of Holtville and Imperial County Fire responded. Firefighters were able to search the building to make sure there was no one inside. They also were able to protect a nearby apartment building and adjacent businesses. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
