(Calexico Police Department hit by virus)...Several officers have tested positive for COVID 19.

That includes Calexico Police Chief Gonzalo Gerardo. Three non sworn employees of the Department have also tested positive. One officer is reportedly recovering at a Los Angeles area hospital. The Chief asked for mutual aid to help patrol the Border City. Imperial County Sheriff's Office and the El Centro Police Department will be patrolling Calexico during the day shift for the next two weeks. Gerardo, who is recuperating at home, said some of his employees will begin returning to work next week. The Chief said he could not release any of the names of the employees who tested positive. The did not say if any of the other employees have been hospitalized, other than the one in Los Angeles.
