Imperial County continues to battle the surge of COVID-19 patients.
According to El Centro Regional Medical Center CEO Dr. Adolphe Edward , the El Centro hospital has 130 patients as of Tuesday morning with 79 of them being active COVID-19 patients. ECRMC has 36 ventilators in use with 35 of them for COVID-19 patients. The Imperial County Public Health Department issued a Tuesday update that shows the number of deaths has remained at 360 while the number of active coronavirus cases increased by 264 since Monday's update. The Health Department numbers show that there are 56.73 new cases per day per 100,000 population and the positivity rate is at 27.34%. Healthcare staff and facilities are stressed with the influx of patients following the Thanksgiving holiday and trying to prepare for an even bigger surge with the Christmas and New Year holidays coming up.
