Caltrans says the Interstate 8 / Imperial Avenue interchange will be shut down completely starting Thursday night.
Construction crews will close the westbound ramps at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday as Stage 2 of the Interchange Project continues. Both the eastbound and westbound I-8 ramps will remain closed for six to eight months. The project has so far seen the removal of the existing bridge and eastbound on- and off-ramps and will eventually include a new overpass and on- and off-ramps in both directions and access to the upcoming expansion of Imperial Avenue south of the freeway. The interchange is expected to be open to traffic by late 2021 or early 2022.
