An early morning accident resulted in the death of the driver of a car on westbound Interstate 8 near Jacumba.

The accident occurred at about 6:00 a.m. Monday when a car ran off the freeway and down an embankment west of Carrizo Gorge Road near Jacumba Hot Springs. The car rolled over and caught fire igniting nearby brush. The driver of the car sustained fatal injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
