The numbers were released by the Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Developmnent Department. According to the report August unemployment for Imperial County came in at 22.9 percent. That is down from a revised 27.0 percent in July, and above the year ago estimate of 22 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 11.6 percent for the state and 8.5 percent for the nation during the same period. During the month of August, 15,900 eligible workers were unemployed in Imperial County out of a labor force of 69,200. Imperial County had the highest unemployed rate in the state for the month of August.
