(Border enforcement extended)….It was announced via Twitter.
The US, Canada and Mexico have agreed to extend the closure of the International Land ports for non-essential travelers. The action was extended through October 21. The 3 governments say the extension is an attempt to slow the spread of COVID 19. Extremely long lines have been reported at the Ports in Imperial County. Customs and Border Protection has said this was part of the International agreement. The CBP trimmed the workforce to accommodate essential travelers, only. The problem is non-essential travelers continue to cross the border. The CBP says US citizens or legal US residents cannot be denied entry into the United States, but they can be delayed. Mexican officials have created long waits by conducting health inspections on every vehicle crossing into their country, and returning those who do not have an essential reason to cross the border.
