A fire did heavy damage to a Yuma motel.
Firefighters responded to the Fifth Avenue Motel at about 7:18 a.m. Wednesday. Arriving personnel found heavy smoke and flames coming from structures connected to the office and five vehicles on the property. Yuma fire was able to contain the fire to those structures and vehicles. All occupants of the motel were able to evacuate safely. 5th Avenue between 9th Street and 11th Street was closed to traffic for several hours. The Red Cross is assisting motel occupants that were displaced by the blaze.
