(Firefighters getting the upper-hand)….A new update on the Carmel Fire.
It was released Thursday morning. Cal Fire says the fire in Monterey County is now 55 percent contained. The fire has been burning since August 18. In the update, Cal Fire said the fire has burned 6,695 acres. Improved weather conditions have allowed firefighters to improve the fire perimeter and contingency lines. Crews are concentrating on Hot Spots and extinguishing them. Cal Fire says smoldering within the containment lines will continue to burn, posing little to no threats. Evacuation orders have been lifted in some areas. No injuries have been reported. There have been 7 structures damaged and 73 structures destroyed, most of the residences. The Imperial County Strike Team has been asked to remain on scene for 7 more days, before returning home.
