The National Weather Service has revised their Excessive Heat Warning a bit.
The warning has been extended through 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening with temperatures expected to range from 112 to 118 degrees in the Imperial , Yuma , and Mexicali Valleys. The NWS added that the chances of thunderstorms developing has decreased and that if storms do develop they will probably not make it past the Colorado River Valley.
The State of California has issued a FlexAlert for most of the state with the possibility of more rolling blackouts. IID is not a member of the California Independent Systems Operator ( CAISO ) and rotating power outage orders do not apply to IID customers. The Imperial Irrigation District says that they are able to meet the needs of their customers in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys but have asked that customers do what they can to voluntarily conserve electricity and take stress of the local electric grid during the current heat wave. Should energy demand surpass IID's available supply , the District has an action plan in place where a small number of customers could experience a temporary loss of power for 15-minute periods. To help avoid this the District asks residents and businesses to conserve energy by:
* Setting thermostats at 78 degrees or higher when home.
* Using floor or ceiling fans to cool off , however , be sure to turn fans off when you leave a room as they only cool people not spaces.
* Turn off all unneeded lights.
* Avoid using major appliances between peak hours of 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
* Block the sun from overheating your home. Use shades , blinds and drapes.
The IID said thatas the heatwave persists they will continue to work to bring more energy resources online to met the demand.
