(Border Patrol rescues two)…The two had been abandoned by a Human Smuggler.

The incident occurred Thursday evening at around 7:40 pm. The California Highway Patrol notified the El Centro Sector Border Patrol Communications Dispatch of a distress call made by two individuals. The caller, a 34 year old female, said she and her cousin, a 17 year old mal, were lost and had been abandoned by a large group they were originally traveling with. She also said her cousin had sprained his ankle. GPS coordinates were used to determine an estimated location, and the information was passed on to Border Patrol agents working the area. At around 8:20 pm an Air and Marine Operations in the area was called in. At around 8:40 the air unit observed an individual shining a light at the aircraft. Agents were guided to the scene and within minutes made contact with the pair. The two were evaluated and did not appear to have any serious injuries. They both declined any further medical attention. It was determined the two had entered the US illegally from Mexico. They were taken to a process area and later deported back to Mexico.
