The National Weather Service has upgraded their Excessive Heat Watch to an Excessive Heat Warning.
An Excessive Heat Warning means that a period of very hot temperatures , even by Imperial Valley standards , will occur. The warning is for Saturday through Monday when temperatures are likely to be near 120 degrees. Abnormally strong high pressure building over the area Friday will continue into early next week in the Imperial , Mexicali , and Yuma Valleys. Overnight lows will be in the upper 80's through the weekend with 10 mph winds gusting up to 20 mph.
Stay indoors and seek air-conditioned buildings. Drink more water than usual , and avoid dehydrating alcoholic , sugary , or caffeinated drinks. Dress for the heat , lightweight and light colored clothing. Eat small meals and eat more often If engaging in outdoor activities , take longer and more frequent breaks. Check in on family , friends , and neighbors , especially the elderly. Public cooling places are available throughout the Valley.
