(Transit Provider grants awarded)…They were announced Monday.
The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration announced $128.7 million in grant awards to four transit providers in California as part of the Corona Virus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security, or CARES Act, signed by President Trump on March 27. The recipients will use their grant awards to support transit operating, administrative, and preventive maintenance expense during the COVID 19 public health emergency. Locally, Imperial Valley Transit will receive approximately $10.6 million for the service it provide the communities in Imperial County. In addition to the CARES Act funding, FTA issued a Safety Advisory that prompts transit agencies to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding face coverings and Personal Protective Equipment, cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces, physical separation and hand hygiene consistent with Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidance. CARE Act funding can be used to cover 100 percent of the costs.
