The driver of a HAZMAT truck was rescued after being trapped under the truck after it rolled over.
The accident was reported shortly after 2:00 p.m. Thursday when the truck ran off the S-2 Highway near Ocotillo. U.S. Border Patrol agents witnessed the accident and arrived on the scene immediately after it occurred. The agents saw that the driver was pinned under the truck and notified local authorities. A Supervisory Border Patrol agent certified as an Emergency Medical Technician , a BORSTAR team agent and a Bureau of Land Management agent arrived on the scene and were able to remove a door from the truck and extract the driver. The man was than flown by REACH Air Medical to a trauma center. The truck was carrying propane but the tank maintained structural integrity and there was no HAZMAT issue. The roadway remained blocked through the night as crews worked to remove the wreckage.
