Statewide, the California Highway Patrol recently conducted a Maximum Enforcement Period ( MEP ).

The effort was put forth to enforce one of the deadliest behaviors on state roadways, speeding. Statewide, nearly 18,000 citations were issued the weekend of June 7-8. Over 12,300 were for speeding plus, there were 373 arrests for Driving Under the Influence. In Imperial County, the weekend saw 206 total citations, 197 of them for speeding. There were 2 DUI arrests, and 6 vehicles were impounded. According to the CHP, the MEP may be over, but they will be vigilant for speeding, distracted drivers, not wearing a seat belt and other violations.
