(Memory Gardens Cemetery)…Is anything being done to maintain the cemetery?
That was a question presented by District 3 Supervisor Mike Kelley. At this week’s Board meeting, Kelley said he would like a progress report on what is being done about Memory Gardens. The cemetery is located between Imperial and Brawley, just off Highway 86. It had been allowed to deteriorate over the years for lack of up-keep and care. The old cemetery is the final resting place of several families and local military veterans. Volunteers, mostly local Vets, have been working for free to make the cemetery presentable. Tuesday County Executive Officer Tony Rouhotas Jr. and legal counsel explained they have been in touch with the owners of the property and are currently negotiating with them. They are putting together an RFP to provide the up-keep at the cemetery and they are working on how to get water to the site.
