(Industrial Hemp has been approved by the County)…In fact, the County Board of Supervisors is hosting the 1st Industrial Hemp Summit and Expo.
It will be held next week. The County is strongly promoting the new Ag industry in Imperial County. Tuesday the Board was reminded of one issue that needs to be worked out. The Transportation of the Hemp. Representatives from the US Border Patrol and the County Sheriff’s Office went before the Board at their weekly meeting. They said the transportation issue needs to be worked out. They said currently there is no way to tell the difference between Industrial Hemp and illegal marijuana. Technically, hemp has very low levels of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana that produces the high received by users. The Law Enforcement representatives said drug detecting dogs cannot tell the difference, and Officers and agents cannot tell the difference just by looking. They did say the Border Patrol is working with a developer that could eventually test the product on site to determine the THC levels, but it is not available, yet.
