(Air Quality Alert)…It was issued by the Air Pollution Control District.
At 9:00 am Thursday, the Alert reported Air Quality in Mexicali had reached a condition of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. The reason was very high levels of PM 2.5. The finite particulate matter is caused mainly by vehicle emissions. The APCD says the sensitive groups include people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children. Those groups are most at risk when they are physically active. The US Environmental Protection Agency says when high levels of PM 2.5 are recorded; people in the sensitive groups should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion. Air Quality for the rest of the region has been reported as good to moderate.
