Several accidents and fires kept imperial County emergency services agencies busy this weekend.
It started Friday morning on eastbound Interstate 8 at Meyer Creek on the Mountain Springs grade. At about 10:30 a.m. a 32-foot RV and trailer caught fire and became totally engulfed in flames. One lane of the freeway was closed for a time for cleanup of the burned wreckage.
At about 3:50 p.m. Friday, the California Highway Patrol responded to eastbound Interstate 8 just west of Ocotillo. A car and a semi-tractor trailer rig collided. The car was totally demolished and debris covered the roadway. The driver of the car sustained lacerations to the head.
At about 4:45 p.m. Saturday a vehicle went out of control, overturned and struck a utility pole causing problems with the wires. The vehicle ended up on its roof and the driver suffered minor injuries. Austin Road at Brewer was shut down for several hours to allow repairs to the damage.
On Sunday at about 12:30 p.m. an accident in the area of Opal Road and Boundary Avenue was reported. A victim sustained head injuries. The victim ws apparently on a bicycle being towed by a vehicle. The victim was flown to a San Diego Trauma Center for treatment.
