The separate incidents occurred at the same checkpoint. Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents were working the Interstate 8 Checkpoint in the Yuma area Tuesday. Early in the morning agents sent a 2008 Nissan Altima to the secondary area. A records check on the vehicle resulted in the discovery the vehicle had been stolen from Tucson. Agents also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The driver and the passenger, both US citizens from El Paso Texas were arrested and the vehicle and drugs were seized. Later that same morning a Mazda was referred to the secondary inspection area after a k-9 alerted to the vehicle. Agents discovered 22 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. A records check on the two passengers revealed they were both US Citizens with extensive criminal histories. The vehicle was not registered, and the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The two, both from Tulare, California, were arrested. The vehicle and narcotics were seized.
