U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector were assaulted in three separate instances last week.
The first assault occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday , October 11, 2018 when an agent on bicycle patrol in downtown Calexico stopped a suspect for illegally entering the U.S. After questioning , the man resisted arrest and was subdued with pepper spray after assaulting the agent. The 24-year old Mexican national was arrested and charged with illegally entering the United States and assaulting a federal officer.
The second incident occurred several hours later when agents on patrol just west of the Calexico downtown port were pelted with rocks thrown from south of the border. Mexican authorities were notified. No arrests were made. and no injuries were reported.
On Friday morning an agent patrolling the desert west of Mt. Signal attempted to stop a suspected illegal border crosser. The man tried to run back to Mexico but was apprehended. The man resisted arrest and assaulted the agent. The suspect was subdued when back up agents arrived. The 41-year old Mexican national was turned over to the FBI for further questioning.
