U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man after a two-hour chase Tuesday night.
According to the Border Patrol , at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday agents saw a Dodge Magnum parked on the side of Highway S-2 , north of Ocotillo , in Imperial County. Agents approached the driver to conduct an immigration inspection , and observed two passengers lying down in the back seat. The driver sped off heading north on Highway S-2 and agents attempted to perform a stop but the driver refused to yield. Just minutes after the pursuit began , the Dodge slowed abruptly causing the lead pursuit vehicle to swerve off the road. The driver of the Dodge than rammed into the side of the Border Patrol unit. The chase began again and the driver of the Dodge rammed another Border Patrol vehicle. Continuing north on S-2 the Dodge then stopped and two women were seen exiting the Dodge. Because of the dangers involved in the pursuit agents backed off. Agents from the San Diego sector were able to locate the Dodge on Highway 78 heading towards Ramona. They followed the car to Highway 67 and then to Interstate 8. Agents again attempted to stop the fleeing Dodge but the driver again refused to yield. The Dodge then went onto Highway 125 and onto southbound Interstate 805 heading towards Mexico. Agents were finally able to perform a pursuit interdiction technique ( PIT maneuver ) and end the chase at Telegraph Canyon Road in Chule Vista. The driver , a 28-year old U.S. citizen was taken into custody and will be charged with assault against a federal agent and alien smuggling. The two women , both citizens of Mexico , are being held as material witnesses.
