(May Declared Water Safety Month)…The IID Directors adopted the resolution Tuesday.
Water Safety Month is the Imperial Irrigation District’s traditional month to advise the public of the dangers of swimming in canals and drains. The safest was to avoid the dangers is to avoid the canals and drains altogether. The mascot, Dippy Duck, is brought out to carry the message to thousands of school children, to raise awareness about the dangers of canals while promoting safe practices. The Campaign, Stay Active, Play Safe, Be Cool, takes place through June 11th. The message is Never swim in canals, never play, run, walk or ride a bicycle near a canal, Never jump into a canal.
