Some local sports legends were honored Tuesday.
Imperial Valley Athletic Directors, Imperial Valley Officials Association, CIF-San Diego Section and the state CIF held the ceremony at Brownies in Brawley. Mike Anchondo was recognized by Joe Evangelist for over 50 years of officiating local sports, starting with Little League and continuing officiating high school and community college baseball, softball, basketball and football. Coach Steve Cato was honored for his contributions as a coach and Athletic Director starting at St. Mary's School while still in college and continuing at Imperial, Brawley and Holtville High Schools. Betsy Enders was recognized for her contributions to Imperial Valley Volleyball. Coaching at Brawley and continuing as an official. Tom Ronco was honored for his contributions as a coach, athletic director, official, broadcaster and journalist. John Reschert of Holtville was also honored for his work as a coach, athletic director and high school official in football and basketball. The honorees were all presented a Lifetime Pass to all CIF sports events.
