Driver impairment appears to be a factor in an early Sunday morning accident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old man was driving a Honda Civic at an extremely high rate of speed southbound on State Route 111 north of Worthington Road. A Toyota Corolla was stopped at the traffic light at the 111 and Worthington Road intersection. The Honda slammed into the rear of the Toyota and the 53-year-old man driving the Toyota was fatally injured. The Honda driver was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center with what were described as major injuries. The CHP investigation continues but preliminary information is that impairment was a factor in the collision.
