A woman who escaped custody March 27, 2026 is back in jail.

Alexander Meza was located in Mexicali Wednesday morning. Mexicali Municipal Police picked up Meza and turned her over to Imperial County Sheriff's deputies. Meza was arrested on March, 24, 2026, and was being held in Imperial County Jail on two misdemeanor drug-related warrants. On March 26, she was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center and admitted. While in the hospital, under the supervision of private security, she was able to remove her restraints and escape. A search was instituted and resulted in her recapture in Mexicali. According to the sheriff''s office, a number of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies were involved in the effort.
