The State of Baja California, Mexico has taken steps to curb violence in wake of the killing of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, one of the most wanted drug lords in Mexico, was killed in a gun battle with Mexican military forces in Guadalajara. The death triggered a wave of violence throughout Mexico with roadblocks and burning vehicles reported in a number of Mexican states. The Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila, posted on social media that a statewide security operation was launched Sunday. Increased patrols and checkpoints were established. A number of arrests were reported across the state. The U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued an alert for U.S. citizens saying, " Due to ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity, U.S. citizens in the named locations should shelter in place until further notice.
